And having traveled through the entire island as far as the city of Páphos, they found a certain “Yehuwthíy” luminary orb-worshipping sorcerer-priest, a predicator of the lie whose name was Bar-Yeshuw`â´h71, 7. Who was with a learned man, who was the Roman proconsul and was called Sergíus Páulus. And this one had summoned Shâ’úwl and Bar-Nâvíy and sought to hear the Word of Yâ-hwéh from them. 8. But this luminary orb-worshipping sorcerer-priest, Bar-Yeshuw`â´h, opposed them, seeking to divert the proconsul away from the belief. 9. But Shâ’úwl, who was also named Páulus, being filled of the spirit of the Pure One, and having fixed his eyes on him, 10. Said: “O full of all deceit and all cunning, son of the Accuser, the Adversary of all justification, won’t you cease distorting the straight ways of Yâ-hwéh? 11. And now look! The hand of Yâ-hwéh is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the luminary orb for a time!” And immediately a mist and darkness fell upon him, and wandering around, he sought someone to lead him by his hand. 12. Then when the proconsul had seen what had happened, being struck with astonishment, he believed the instruction of Yâ-hwéh. 13. And Páulus and Bar-Nâvíy, when they had sailed from the city of Páphos, they came unto Pérge, a city of Pamphulía; but Yâhuwchânâ´n [Márquwç], having departed from them, returned unto Yruwshâláim. Footnote 71 The Greek translation has here Bar-Ihsous, a closer rendition than the Aramaic translation, which has here “The Son of the name”. The Aramaic translation has in verse 8 “whose name is interpreted mutely (relating to Strong’s #481)”. Yet the Greek translation has this verse “But there withstood them Muteness the magician, for thus is interpreted His name, seeking…”. This being apparently a scribal name-censorship mess, we will render it as probably the original `Ivríyth (Hebrew) had it, not mistaking his false name for Yâhuwshúa`, nor making people say it silently. The possibility does exist however, that his name was Bar-Yâhuwshúa`.
